Light on a Path, Follow centers Joaquín, a transmasculine pregnant person who endures labor alone in mid-1990s New England. Their desire to carry a child has moved them from the public eye of the city to a 200-year-old farm house tucked away in the hill towns of Western Massachusetts (formerly Pocumtuc territory.) A spirit presence begins to seep through porous walls of the old house. Joaquín, more curious than afraid, continues to focus inward as their due date approaches. But they are quickly caught off guard as their water breaks two weeks early. Their midwife, two hours away, reassures Joaquín that they will not be alone and that she will arrive in time for the birth. A precipitous labor ensues and Joaquín endures the contractions alone. As Joaquín is about to deliver their child, a spirit appears in the room - embodied now in human form, guiding Joaquín through their birth.
