PILGRIMS: Short Film Block

When a teenager gets attacked by peers, his hard-headed mother resolves to protect him from further harassment. Set in an urban Macedonian neighborhood, the short film I’M CALLING YOUR FATHER observes the interplay of gender roles and intergenerational violence, with equal touches of dry humor and family melodrama.

Leon Ristov is an emerging director from North Macedonia. He got his break in the film industry with a lead role in the Berlinale-premiering WHEN THE DAY HAD NO NAME (2017) by acclaimed auteur Teona Mitevska. Leon's sophomore short, I’M CALLING YOUR FATHER (2020), held its world premier at the Sarajevo Film Festival. It screened internationally, winning several awards, including a Grand Prix. Ristov is an alumnus of Talents Sarajevo, obtaining his B.A. in Film Studies from Wesleyan University in the United States.
