On the night his alcoholic mother relapses, a trans teen discovers something monstrous lurking just beneath the skin of his fractured home… When young Toni becomes convinced that a monster is hiding under his bed, his best friend Marcus joins him for a sleepover to prove it’s all in his imagination. But as the night deepens, unsettling events make it clear that something terrifying lurks in the shadows.

Paul X Sanchez IV: Growing up an outsider in affluent, conservative Darien, Connecticut, I found refuge in the punk and straight-edge communities after my mother’s severe alcoholism left me homeless at 15. I co- founded an all-ages club in Greenwich, CT, with Moby, creating a vital space and ad hoc family for drug-free teens seeking connection and creativity.

Accepted to NYU Tisch while homeless for my self-portrait photography and images of my punk community, I went on to earn a BFA in Film from SUNY Purchase and an MFA in Directing from AFI Conservatory, where I received the Tom Yoda Scholarship Award. My semi-autobiographical pilot AV’82 was selected for the 2024 Sundance Episodic Lab.

I’ve directed music videos for artists such as Moby and R.E.M., created award-winning films and documentaries including Modulations, Onion Underwater, and Babyteeth, and toured as Moby’s keyboardist throughout the ‘90s playing Lollapalooza to David Letterman to Woodstock'99--live, in front of over 500,000 people. My photobooth portraits, documenting much of my homeless years, have been collected by The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). I built and flew a plane for Red Bull's Flugtag and I have had two top 10 dance hits in Germany under the pseudonym Schaumgummi. I also founded The International Surrealist Film Festival and the non-profit CLIMATE CHANGE DOC FUND.

As a genderqueer, straight-edge, Indigenous, LatinX artist, my work champions radical inclusion and empathy, reflecting my belief in the power of art to transform lives. Whether through filmmaking, teaching, homeless outreach, or writing AV’82, making BABYTEETH, I aim to tell bold, boundary-pushing stories of resilience and community.
