One of the Girls is a short documentary following Mary, a Japanese American immigrant, single mother, and electrologist whose gender-affirming care has made her a trusted figure in the lives of transgender women. Moving between her home and office, the film captures the intimate rhythms of her daily practice through client sessions, conversations, and moments of quiet routine. Weaving together present-day observation with archival materials from transgender history and the AIDS epidemic, the film reveals how Mary’s work extends beyond allyship into a lifelong practice of care, trust, and accompliceship.

Alexandra Chandra is a Los Angeles–based filmmaker and camera professional whose work bridges technical precision with emotionally intimate storytelling. With a background in marketing and social work, she brings a sharp understanding of human behavior, communication, and collaboration to every set she joins whether behind the camera as a 2nd Assistant Camera or leading creative as a director and writer.

Alexandra began her career in film through the camera department. Her credits include projects for Naturium Skincare, Kim Petras, Leslie Grace, Linda Perry, and multiple independent features and USC shorts. Working extensively with multi-cam workflows, she has cultivated a strong technical foundation in camera builds, lens systems, data management, and on-set workflow. This hands-on experience informs her directorial eye, grounding her creative instincts in an understanding of light, texture, and movement.

In 2026, Alexandra expanded into directing and writing. She is currently debuting One of the Girls, a short documentary she directed, and in pre-production on All There Is, a short narrative film she co-wrote. Her work centers LGBTQ+ characters with emotional nuance and visual intentionality, exploring themes of intimacy, identity, and relational transformation.

A graduate of Connecticut College (B.A. in Psychology and English) and UCLA Extension’s Cinematography program, Alexandra approaches filmmaking with both analytical depth and aesthetic sensitivity. Her training in psychology informs her character-driven storytelling, while her cinematography background shapes a tactile, immersive visual language.

As a trans filmmaker, Alexandra is committed to expanding the emotional landscape of queer cinema-creating work that is technically rigorous, collaborative at its core, and grounded in lived experience.
