A History of Sadness examines the evolving bond between mother and daughter through the lens of displacement and identity, focusing on three generations of Iranian women: a grandmother, a mother and her daughter. The film explores how each generation navigates the challenges of migration and the impact of political upheaval, highlighting the ways that displacement, cultural adaptation and generational change affect individual and collective identity.
