A celebration of the talent and legacy of animation.

Brilliant animator, hand-drawn animation advocate and animation teacher Tony White has studied advanced animation techniques with some of the finest masters of the art form, from Richard Williams, Ken Harris to Art Babbitt. Along the way he has learned many, many lessons.


In this interview with Tony shares his history, his successes and failures as well as his desire to preserve, teach and evolve the art form of traditional animation in this digital age. For students of hand-drawn animation, Tony wants to “pass the pencil” and share his wealth of knowledge and insight.

Tony White boasts over three decades of award-winning experience in the top echelons of the animated film and TV industry. He founded Animus Productions, a renowned London-based studio, where he directed and animated more than 200 TV commercials, 2 TV specials, numerous short films, and conceived and directed the iconic movie titles for The Pink Panther Strikes Again while assisting three-time Academy Award-winning animator Richard Williams.


Under the tutelage of luminaries like Ken Harris and Art Babbit, key figures in animation history, Tony honed his craft. He has also authored five successful books on animation technique, including "The Animator’s Workbook" and "How to Make Animated Films," showcasing his extensive expertise in the art of animation.


Tony's dedication to traditional hand-drawn animation led him to establish the Animaticus Foundation, later transformed into the for-profit Drawassic studio. This organization highlights his commitment to preserving, educating, and evolving traditional animation.


Additionally, Tony is the driving force behind the "2D OR NOT 2D Animation Festival," bringing leading figures in animation to Seattle, including Roy E. Disney, Don Hahn, Michel Gagne, Dean Yeagle, and Tom Wilson.


Tony's innovative teaching methods at institutions like Henry Cogswell College, DigiPen, and AIE-Seattle have nurtured numerous talented individuals, enriching the animation industry.

Keith Blackmore

Sr. Lecturer // Vancouver Film School


As an animation historian, Keith Blackmore has been a passionate cheerleader and a voice for all-things animated in the Vancouver area for almost 30 years. As one of the producers of the SPARK ANIMATION Festival and an active member of the local SIGGRAPH chapter, Keith has presented, interviewed and moderated at many festivals, local and national.


Since 1995, Blackmore has educated, entertained and inspired students in the history of animation and media studies at the Vancouver Film School. When he’s not reading, teaching or talking about animation, he’s watching it.
