"Other” is the story of two sisters who, growing up in a bicultural Chinese/American household, struggle with identity in a country that is constantly trying to define them by their looks.

After the passing of their father, each sister takes a different approach to honoring him, with Grace taking charge of their dad’s bar in order to save the family legacy and Jenna seeking to learn more about her Chinese heritage.

In witnessing each other’s endurance of daily racial comments at the bar - as well as battling an identity crisis of their own - Grace and Jenna begin taking the lead in owning their mixed heritage and start healing the rift that has grown between them. Together they realize that it is never too late to invest in yourself and become the hero of your own life. 

Jay Arcansalin (DIRECTOR)

Jay is a Filipino-American writer/director/DOP whose work spans from music videos to documentaries and narrative. He has a BS is digital cinema from Utah Valley University. Jay loves working with diverse talent and is an advocate for telling underrepresented stories.

Samantha Jean (ACTOR/PRODUCER/COMPOSER)

Samantha Jean is an Australian/Chinese actress based in Los Angeles. She is known for her breakthrough role as Elaine in Beyond Skyline & Skylines on Netflix. Samantha has a BFA [Hon] in Musical Theatre from LaSalle College of the Arts (Singapore) and extensive training in dance, martial arts and stunts. Samantha is passionate about telling female driven stories that champion women to create their own path & embrace their strength within.

Mandie Cheung (WRITER/ACTOR)

Mandie is an actress and writer based in Los Angeles. She is one of the founding members of the all-female sketch comedy group Whoa Man! who wrote, produced, directed, and performed live shows for a few years at the Three Clubs in Hollywood. She is also known for her role in the short film Ride In Progress directed by April Moreau. Mandie is an intersectional feminist and advocate for human rights and strives to work with and lift up stories of those who are underrepresented.
