First, We Eat is an observational portrait of the California Chinese community through the eyes of a Chinese restaurant in Monterey Park and an LA-based recent graduate trying to navigate the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Director Biographies - Windsor Wong and Mireia Vilanova
Windsor Wong and Mireia Vilanova are producers and occasional directors based in Los Angeles. Despite growing up on opposite sides of the world, Windsor in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and Mireia in Barcelona, the two began their creative collaboration after working together on the feature documentary The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years. First, We Eat, born from their interest in immigrant stories, is their first time sitting on the director’s chair.
After moving to the US at 18, Windsor graduated cum laude from Boston University and has gone on to serve as associate producer on multiple acclaimed documentaries at the award-winning company White Horse Pictures, including The Apollo, Pavarotti and The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, which premiered recently on HBO. Independently, she has worked on a variety of projects, including the short Carnival which screened at the China-based FIRST International Film Festival.
Mireia is a graduate of USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program MFA and a member of BAFTA for her work as an international producer. After starting her career as an unscripted television producer in Barcelona, Mireia has gone on to produce numerous projects in that have screened all around the world, in major festivals such as Outfest, LA Shorts or the St. Louis International Film Festival. She is currently in post-production on her first documentary feature, Els 14 del Portal set to be released in 2021.
