Throughout the peak of Asian hate crimes in 2021, the story unfolds through intense interactions between Caleb, his older sister Esther, and his uncle Pat as they grapple with moral dilemmas and the repercussions of violence. Director Biography -&nbsp;Matt Chi<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/01be44aba88d63a7bfda127dca4411d0.jpg" width="234">Matt Chi is a 22-year-old Korean American filmmaker. Originating from the Bay Area, he now lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.Matt is currently interning at Defjam Recordings while also pursuing a Film and Television Production degree at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Matt spent most of his childhood watching movies and Youtube videos. He was then captivated by the visual storytelling medium after discovering behind-the-scenes clips of his favorite films.

Baby Vengeance

Lucy, a high schooler, struggles with anxiety and paranoia in both her waking life and her nightmares. "Lucid" explores her journey through intense social anxiety and her attempts to find solace in a world that feels overwhelming and suffocating. Director Biography -&nbsp;Raphael All Mallari<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/9ca1afc7383b1b9ab5cadcc82a6c9e7b.png" width="256">Raphael is a Filipino American filmmaker who emphasizes mostly on film editing, but applies his comprehension of editing into his work. He is a firm believer that editing is the one characteristic in film and video that is exclusive to its own medium - making it a unique format to experiment with.He typically leans towards projects that allow for surrealism, immersion, and experimental editing. When it comes to writing/directing, he is intrigued by very specific niches and deconstructing them in an attempt to discover, reveal, and amplify the darker/compromising aspects of them. Raphael also works as a video producer in the tech industry, but still provides his knowledge and talents in editing to peers and local filmmakers in California’s Silicon Valley/Bay Area.

Lucid

After being confronted by a sexual assailant on a San Francisco metro, an Asian American woman struggles to reconcile the transgenerational trauma she has endured with her need to protect herself. Director Biography -&nbsp;Cindy Dinh, Alyssa Carter<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/234c1919ef5ca6643c86db91c49f9fa7.jpg" width="292">CINDY DINH is a filmmaker and an actor. The child of Vietnamese refugees, she experienced her American upbringing as both painful and invisibilizing. Growing up, she straddled different cultural identities and struggled to metabolize reverberating intergenerational trauma. Through the creation of hard-hitting dramatic narratives, Cindy delivers her unvarnished emotional truth with a powerful veracity, leading to healing and integration of both individual and society. She recently starred in a staged production of No Exit and co-created the short film, Designer Genes. ALYSSA CARTER is a Digital Creative Producer based in Los Angeles, CA, working for companies such as Maker Studios, Fine Brothers Entertainment, Disney Plus, and TubeScience. Since 2013, Alyssa has written, directed, and produced several independent short films, music videos, and branded commercials. Her short musical film, SING ABOUT IT won “Best Comedy” by the Subversive Cinema Society in 2016. In 2017, her one-take short film, GRAPES won “Best Choreography,” as well as a “Best Female Filmmaker” nomination. Her most recent short film, LAS 17 was awarded “Best Short Film” by the NSAEN Film Festival 2018, and “Best Micro Short” by the United Latino Film Festival 2019. Alyssa looks forward to building on stories of female empowerment and amplifying the unheard voice with this next short film, TRAPPED IN MOTION.

Trapped in Motion

Eugene, a once-extroverted 11-year-old, enjoyed a vibrant life with numerous friends. However, as the unknown pandemic unfolds, a surge in Asian hate crimes shrouds his world in fear. Eugene and his mom lives in constant apprehension, besieged by threats from their neighbours, the community, and even the entire city. One fateful day, after a grocery run, Eugene and his mother return home to an uncomfortable scene. Their neighbour Sabrina and her son Shawn walk out of their house and notice Eugene and Elizabeth. They rush back to their house because Sabrina thinks they are contagious. Eugene's mother ushers him inside and instructs him to lock the doors until she returns from work. Director Biography -&nbsp;Vyolet Jeun<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/0cc5a3eb6596e433924aa3b3fc790a04.jpg" width="210">Vyolet Jeun is originally from South Korea, who is a writer, director and studying Filmmaking in New York. She has been developing her career and path into the directory scene since 2022, learning and achieving as writer/director/producer. She is a romance genre filmmaker, but that does not stop her to reproduce all diverse types of film that is needed in this world. She believes in love, and she loves what she does, film. She has worked on a variety of film sets, with all different types of genre on student film sets and as well as professional film production sets for Shortmax.

This meditative videopoem reflects on recent anti-Asian hate incidents, including one at Wing Luke museum in Seattle and one in Georgetown, Texas, in the context of violence and colonialism that goes back hundreds of years. Psychiatrist, poet and filmmaker Ravi Chandra explores love, hate, identity, and suffering, and commits us solemnly to the fight against racism and violence. The film closes with a nod to Shantideva's "Path of the Bodhisattva": Chandra says, "As long as racism remains, as long as beings affected by racism remain - may I too remain, to dispel the miseries of the world."
