On the outskirts of Chad’s capital city, determined single mother Amina works tirelessly to provide for herself and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Maria. When Amina discovers Maria is pregnant and does not want a child, the two women begin to seek out an abortion, condemned by both religion and law.

About the filmmaker

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun was born in 1961 in Abéché, Chad. During the civil war of the 1980s, Haroun left the country and relocated to France, by way of Cameroon. There he worked as a journalist before studying at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma in Paris. His feature debut Bye Bye Africa (1999) was the first full-length film ever made in Chad. His third feature Dry Season (2006) won the Grand Special Jury Prize in Venice. A Screaming Man (2010) won the Jury Prize in Cannes, making Haroun the first Chadian director to enter, as well as win, an award in the main Cannes competition. He was also a member of the jury for the competition in Cannes in 2011. He was appointed as the Minister of Culture of Chad from February 2017 to February 2018 when he resigned from the position.
