Jolly Folly

From urban dance to contemporary dance and with African dances, the choreographer Amala Dianor enters the Villa Savoye in France, and fuses them all together. Collaborating with painter Grégoire Korganow, Amala Dianor adapts Man Rec’s choreography (“Me only” in Wolof) and transforms it to “Nioun Rec” (“Us only”), the début creation in a series of dance films called “Ciné-Danse”. Accompanied by dancer Nangaline Gomi, the choreographer offers a unique creation in the Villa Savoye, icon of a new and modern architecture built by Le Corbusier.&nbsp;

NIOUN REC

Originally, Ephemera was going to be a live performance designed in a covid-safe way with required distance between viewers and performers. The audience was supposed to watch it from the circulating cabins of the paternoster lift in the beautiful historic Lucerna Palace in Prague and this way experience parallel events happening across six floors. At the last moment, due to new covid-related restrictions we couldn’t perform the show live. Within a few days, we adapted the concept of the live show and shot the project as a film. Ephemera is a set of fleeting intimate moments captured in the form of powerful emotional movements. The protagonists, preoccupied with their own uncertain and volatile stories, don’t notice the others just next to them. The scenes evoke everyday situations in a melancholic setting, at the edge between reality and strangeness.

BLAST takes its cue from the growth of radical ideologies and modern art in London, 1914. About Roseanna Anderson and Josh Ben-Tovim are the Co-directors of Bristol-based company, Impermanence. The company creates and presents critically acclaimed work, with dance at its center, in different media and settings, including theatre, film, cabaret and site-specific projects.

This film is from the everyday viewer’s perspective. It explores what it might be like to travel through the frames and screens, that otherwise keep a voyeur and his or her fanciful ideas and longing experiences at a distance and, instead, turn them into a real-life journey. About --Luca Signoretti--- Italy – born in Cattolica on December 26, 1982. He started his training in 2003 at the Hangart Pesaro. He continued his studies in 2006 as a member of the Ballet Junior de Genève. He started his professional career in 2009 as a member of Tanz Luzerner Theater, Switzerland. ---Tobias Buchmann--- Tobias has been working as a cameraman for 12 years. His experiences were mainly the documentary as well as the industrial film. Since 2018 he studies at the ZHdK in the Master of Arts Camera. ---Alicja Pahl--- Just after landing in this world Alicja was directly moved with bag and baggage from Poznan to Nuremberg. After the A-levels she studied cinematography at the polish national film school in Lodz. Then she built her base camp in Berlin from where she swarmed out for shootings all over Germany, Europe and the USA. Long back and forth, between Berlin and Switzerland Alicja finally arrived happily in the cosmopolitan Zurich where she started another Master at the ZHdK.

“We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love.” Said Tennessee Williams to James Grissom in an interview for his book Follies of God. A young couple (Sofia Linares and Shuailun Wu) is trapped in a void negotiating a never ending cycle of life without a feeling of time but with an impending sense that their fate is near if not already amongst them. Have they been in this burning building for seconds, minutes or years? THE BURNING BUILDING was commissioned by Carlos Acosta for Birmingham Royal Ballet, created and conceived by Javier De Frutos and Directed by Dan Lowenstein. About ---Javier De Frutos--- Javier De Frutos, Spanish Director, Choreographer and designer (born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1963) was named by the Evening Standard as one of 2016 most influential people in the UK. He is one of only three artists in the history of the Olivier Awards to have received nominations in all of the dance categories. His awards include the Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography for Cabaret, The Evening Standard Award for The Most Incredible Thing in collaboration with Pet Shop Boys, Critics’ Circle Awards for Milagros with Royal New Zealand Ballet and Elsa Canasta with Rambert and Scottish Ballet, The South Bank Show Award for Grass and The Time Out Award for Sour Milk with Candoco Dance Company. Further credits include the National Theatre production of London Road - winner of the Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and for which he received an Olivier nomination for the stage version and The 2017 Chita Rivera Award for best choreography in a feature film for the screen adaptation. He has received further recognition in the field of music video with a nomination for best choreography in the UK music Video awards for his collaboration with Jake Nava in Delilah’s Inside My Love and also received the Prix de Auteur in the 1996 Concours de Seine-Saint Denis in Paris. His work has been the subject of several documentaries. The South Bank Show in 1998 dedicated an hour king feature. Only a handful of Dance Artists have received that Honor. In 2011 the BBC broadcasted in prime time The Most Incredible Thing in collaboration with Pet Shop Boys, and the US premiere took place in Charlotte North Carolina in March 2018. He was invited by the McColl Center for Arts and Innovation to be the same years’ Artist in Residence. Their first Choreographer and Director in their History. in 2000 De Frutos became one of the first Fellowship recipients The Arts Council of England, through which he studied extensively the works of Tennessee Williams for more than two years. He also represented Britain at the internationally prestigious Venice Biennale in 2006. ---Dan Löwenstein--- Dan Lowenstein is a multi-award-winning Film director known for his dynamic and though provoking style. Dan has worked with an eclectic group of creatives from well-known comedians to chart topping pop stars. He comes from a professional dance background and uses his physical knowledge to help tell stories in innovative ways using a selection of powerful cinematic tools. Dan has directed features films, short films and numerous dance films, music videos and concept films. In the world of Movies Dan is known for Thats Just Me starring Pixie Lott, Hubris Starring Andrew Koji, becoming Everything starring Steve Leeds, the book of laws feature film. In the world of movement Dan is known for EGO, northern ballet, The Burning Building, The royal ballet, KIN northern ballet In the world of commercials Dan has directed spots for Pimms, volvo, Kylie cosmetics (Kylie Jenner &amp; harris Scott), blackberry and other large brands In the world of Music Dan has just worked with pixie Lott on her yet to be released music, Mahalia &amp; The V&amp;A on a music Film. The Burning Building

A screendance ritual for the presence and absence of water.&nbsp;This film is the first collaboration between director Katrina McPherson and choreographer Rob Heaslip, with music by Philip Jeck. About the Artists Katrina McPherson is an award-winning director and screendance artist whose creative, scholarly and educational works is at the forefront of the international field. Her forward-looking, body-based screen practice has resulted in many films, installations and on-line works. These have been written about extensively, won awards and presented at numerous venues and festivals worldwide. Water & Man

Five bodies in composition, create ever changing microcosms: striving to find meaning amidst their shared reality (-ies) when really it is a fluid sequence of narratives bearing no catharsis. Like in her dream, everything is fulfilled in itself. Interrupted. The bodies are carriers and generators of these microcosms. They live, mature and decay in their own artificial conditions, questioning their very existence. “ …The other night I woke up into another dream. I am in a large black square box. Inside it I encounter a woman and two men. They are trying to wrap their hands around her neck and asphyxiate her. I see something move on her head. Do you know what it was? Snakes. Her hair turned into snakes. The angrier she got, the anger grew the snakes.” P.S.: Composition was initially materialized as a theatre dance performance. This film is another dimension of the piece. Composition for six bodies was performed five times in July 2020 in Athens at the industrial space of Amaxostasio, in the context of Papagou Festival and at the archaeological space of Plato’s Academia. It was filmed in the creative space of the company in August 2020. About Antonia Economou was born in Athens in 1995. She is a choreographer, artistic director and performer. Antonia’s group of artists meet to question the boundaries of a theatre company in an ongoing creative process/workshop, not only driven by reaching an end result or the materialization of a performance. As a History of Art graduate (BA Hons Degree), she has established a close academic relationship with the discipline, and it constitutes her primary source of inspiration for creating images on stage. Antonia is also the artistic director and curator in most of the pieces that she conceptualizes and presents. She is the founder, executive producer and artistic director at ΕRGO Collective. ERGO Collective (Non-profit Organization) was initiated in September 2017 and it is a creative platform founded on the premise of collaboration. Antonia finds a way to develop her artistic process as a director in an open field, not limited in the theatre space, as it extends in the Visual Art practices. Her most recent works performed in Athens include: PiETA (Roes Theatre 2018) and PiETA II (Alternative Stage, Greek National Opera, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, 2019). The full lockdown interrupted the materialization of her piece Atitlon which is designed to take place in 2021. Her latest piece, Composition for six bodies was conceived during the pandemic and performed in July 2020 in Athens at the industrial space of Amaxostasio, in the context of Papagou Festival and at the archaeological space of Plato’s Academia. It was filmed in the creative space of the company in August 2020.

Birds is a short digital choreographic piece imagined thought directed by John Degois. With this piece he tries to transpose live performance into film. He thus chooses to make a sequence shot in order to keep the notion of "live", slow motion to allow the spectator to have time to watch where he wants. He also breaks the perspective by not necessarily centering the main action in the middle of the image. Against a background of melancholy, Birds evokes a time when the question of freedom did not arise. About John Degois is a choreographer and dancer from the hip-hop scene. For the past 25 years, he has spent his life between the stage and the dance studio. For the past few years - in parallel with his company's projects - he has been collaborating with many directors from different backgrounds to create short dance films together. It was Dominique Palombo who first gave him the opportunity to work with them. Then he meets B. Vacarisas and Thomas Siemieniec with whom they co-founded the collective D.P.M (Dance Per Minute). With them the project of short, danced films goes further to take the form of what he calls "Choreographic Vignettes". One of their productions, Tango sous la table, earned him a nomination for the World Of Dance in the "Best International Choreographer" category. Until now, all these projects he signs as a dancer and/or choreographer and/or author. It is in March 2020, then stuck between the 4 walls of his home, the live performance at a complete stop, that he imagines the creation of a choreographic piece designed exclusively for the camera. A hybrid and experimental artistic object where dance creation and film meet. He then made his very first film entitled Birds. This concept, which he calls "Digital Choreographic Piece", consists in transposing live theater into video, in finding how to move the codes of theater to put them into images. It was also awarded at the Côté Court festival in Pantin in the Essai / Art vidéo category and at the ReelHeart International Film and Screenplay in Toronto in the Best Dance Film Competition category. John Degois is currently writing a second opus that he hopes to start in 2022.

Her interest in the arts begins with painting, continues with music and later focuses on dance, combining the latter with photography over a period of 3 years. Characterized by her versatility and ease of adaptation, Aina has been experimenting in different styles and fields of urban and contemporary dance over the last 20 years. In the field of afro-descendant dances, learned between USA, France and Senegal, she has been interested in competition, freestyle, choreography and more specifically in stage creation. Her clear interest in aesthetics and her training in photography has led her to direct numerous short video-dance films with videographer Marc Costa and with great dancers from the Spanish scene. She has given workshops all over the peninsula as well as in Central America although she prefers the creative process to teaching. Sporadically he works for the music industry, TV, advertising and / or brands. Always motivated with the creation and the interdisciplinary mix, Aina is constantly looking for new information and teachers to feed her knowledge. The last 4 years her developmenthas gone hand in hand with the study of different feminisms, queer culture and artistic expressions of the LGBT communities of African descent. She currently directs her ownproject: Cia Aina Lanas. Her incessant career makes her a reference of urban/contemporary dance in Spain.
