Justin Emeka is a director, writer and actor that has worked in theatre for over 25 years. He specializes in re-imagining classic texts through the lens of Black Culture. He serves as the resident director at the Pittsburgh Public Theater where he recently directed August Wilson's "Two Trains Running" and his own adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream in Harlem". He is making his film directing debut with the short film "Six Winters Gone Still".Six Winters Gone Still is a re-contextualization of a scene from Shakespeare’s “Richard II”. In this short, I hope to reveal the loss of innocence for a generation of incarcerated Black men and the impact of their absence on their families.
Set in 1952 Trinidad, the film follows Shell an ambitious African village boy struggling with poverty and his sick father finds solace in a wealthy Indian farmer, Mr. Gidharee, and his captivating daughter, until he falls for a city girl, and discovers the scheming entrapment of his solace that would shatter his love life and manhood.
