Under the Same Roof: Short Films About Family is a series of short films that chronicle Viet Film Fest (VFF) from its inception to its most recent iteration. These films capture the complexity of family through bonds that bend and break, created by and/or starring the Vietnamese diaspora. Whether the film was set in the U.S. or abroad, familial ties are questioned, explored, and disrupted through silent revelations and turbulent severances. Details of a live stream Q&A for this showcase are TBD and will be announced shortly. This is a free screening with pay what you want admission at checkout so please consider donating to VFF!

Set in the countryside of Northern Vietnam, it’s a story of 10-year-old Mai Vy, who skips school one day to help her father run his truck taxi business. Mai Vy is soon confronted with shades of morality and some harsh realities as she learns how things, outside the classroom, really are.
