This film block traces the systems and efforts that make life possible, often operating across vastly different scales. A tiny shorebird’s migration is sustained by biofilm hidden in the mud, artists and filmmakers bring wildlife and sustainability into public view, volunteers race to save endangered fish, and dedicated individuals work to protect mammals on land and at sea.

Together, the films invite viewers to look more closely at the networks that sustain ecosystems, and the people who choose to engage with them through science, creativity, and action.

Multiple agencies and volunteers come together after the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, CA to rescue an endangered fish population before they are threatened to be completely wiped out by an upcoming mudslide.
