In this film, we find out what happens when a bevy of rockstar skiers get together with a world champion drone pilot in the snowy wilds of the Canadian Rockies.

Charge

Perched at 12,500 feet, Shandur Pass is one of the most remote places in Pakistan. There, in the shadow of enormous snow-capped mountains, you’ll find the country’s highest polo field, where each year, teams from rivaling valleys meet up for a centuries-old battle of freestyle polo. This beautifully shot film profiles player Sikander Ul Mulk, 61, who has been a team captain for over 20 years. “You’ve got to sacrifice your life for it, and it’s not easy,” he says of the game. But, he adds, “I couldn’t do anything else.”

For the Love of the Game

The oldest weekly professional rodeo in the United States is a place called Cowtown, located in the unexpected eastern state of New Jersey. Here, third-generation proprietor Howard “Grant” Harris, a former bull rider and lifelong cowboy, strives to keep his birthright intact, running horses, producing a weekly show and fending off exorbitant offers to purchase and develop his prime land. He could cash out, but in his mind he’s already got all the treasures he needs. “What we do is what we are,” he says. “We don’t know how to do anything else.”

Cowtown

Because of sumo wrestling traditions, Japanese women are banned from competing professionally in the sport. But it’s all female sumo champion Hiyori Kon has ever wanted to do — and she’s damn good at it. This beautifully crafted film follows her awakenings about her sport, and her decision to try to change its outdated ways. “If we each raise our voice while also spreading sumo around the world, then I believe there will be more people willing to fight gender inequality with us,” she says.

On October 2, 1977, Dusty Baker hit his 30th home run of the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. As Baker rounded the bases, an excited rookie named Glenn Burke met him at home plate, raised his arm in the air and slapped Baker's hand. It was the first high five recorded in the history of sports. A year later, Burke was forced out of baseball amid rumours of his sexual orientation.&nbsp;This fast-moving short by&nbsp;Mike Jacobs&nbsp;uses the conception of the high five as a foundation to explore the larger issue of what it means — then and now — to be gay in professional sports.

The High Five

In 1944, 20-year-old Frank Moore landed on the beaches of Normandy. Crossing through the occupied French countryside, the young soldier daydreamed about coming back in peacetime to fish the bucolic streams. After the war, he returned to the States, married, had a family and built a life centered around fly fishing. But he never made it back to those streams in France. Until 2014. Now 90 years old, but with the energy of a man 20 years younger, Moore completes the dream with his wife and son by his side. This extraordinary story of a dream deferred, and ultimately fulfilled, proves that the scars of the past can be healed.&nbsp;Mending the Line&nbsp;was a 2013 Mountainfilm Commitment Grant recipient and 2014 Mountainfilm Official Selection.

In the ensuing games, kids learn not only the elements of the game but speak of bravery, belief in oneself and the importance of opening moves. They may not always win, but in this short film, the magic of the game is seen through youthful eyes brimming with possibility.
