ABOUT THE FILM:As Long As We Can captures a day-in-the-life of an Arizona reproductive health clinic trying to navigate the turbulent aftermath of the 2022 Dobbs decision. As the entire abortion care system struggles to figure out what is now legal and what is not, extra poignancy was thrown onto this particular clinic by an Arizona Supreme Court decision to uphold an 1864 law criminalizing all abortions. That decision has garnered a national spotlight, and the issues faced in Arizona are national in nature. The film also captures the warmth, courage, and sheer bustle of a clinic trying to simply stay open and serve its clients. In a moment dizzying with opinions on women who seek abortions – and the people who care for them – As Long As We Can brings us their voices; the voices of people in the path of a hurricane upending the lives of women all over the nation. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Kristy Guevara-Flanagan is a Professor at UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film, and Television, where she heads the MFA Directing Documentary concentration. She has been making documentary films that focus on gender, representation, and the Latinx community for nearly two decades. Guevara-Flanagan’s documentary and experimental films have screened at the Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, and HotDocs film festivals and the Getty Museum. Her work has broadcast on Starz, Hulu, PBS and the Sundance Channel, received numerous awards, and been funded by ITVS, the Sundance Institute, Fork Films, the IDA, the Tribeca Institute, Latino Public Broadcasting, and California Humanities.

ABOUT THE FILM:A Chinese immigrant living in a Single Residence Occupancy apartment receives news that her family’s application for better housing is denied, and grapples with how to share the news with her children. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Omer Ben-Shachar is an LA-based writer/director. His short, Tree #3, won a 2019 Student Academy Award, and received top prizes at UrbanWorld, Palm Springs, and HollyShorts, among others. His short, Down Here, won a 2023 Webby Award, was named ‘Best of Vimeo Staff Picks’, and was nominated for a Cannes Lions Young Directors Award. He was a 2024 Film Independent Screenwriting Lab Fellow, a 2023 Film Independent Project Involve Directing Fellow, a participant of the 2020 Warner Bros. TV Directors’ Workshop, the 2019 Paramount’s Viewfinder Directors Program, and is an AFI Conservatory graduate.

ABOUT THE FILM:Based on true events, Superman Doesn't Steal is a coming-of-age story, set in Atlanta in the 70's during the Atlanta Child Murders and seen through the eyes of 8-year-old Harriet, who is as fascinated with superheroes as is her older brother Jackson. However, when they experience a troubling series of events that impact their family, leaving emotional scars and causing them both to grow up fast, they must redefine their definitions of heroes, villains, themselves – and yes – even Superman. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Tamika Lamison, a Virginia native, graduated from American University and Howard University. Honors include: ABC/Walt Disney Fellowship in Screenwriting, the CBS Director’s Initiative and AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women Fellowship. Tamika has produced/written/directed several award-winning shorts and features. She was a staff writer/producer on Monogamy. Tamika created the non-profit, Make A Film Foundation, which grants film wishes to children with serious or life-threatening medical conditions by teaming them with noted film industry who help them create short film legacies (www.makeafilmfoundation.org). Tamika is a Rideback Rise Fellowship circle member &amp; Finalist in Shondaland’s Director Mentoring Program. Her current film has won multiple awards.

ABOUT THE FILM:Filmmaker Andy Sarjahani and his childhood friend Bubba Samuels go on a wild hog hunt in their native Ozarks. Unexpected conversations unfold that have a lasting impact on their friendship. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:Andy Sarjahani is an Iranian-American documentary filmmaker and cinematographer raised outside the Arkansas Ozarks. He is interested in people, our relationship to place, and how that shapes our worldview. He was the verite cinematographer on Academy Award-nominated The Barber of Little Rock (The New Yorker, 2024). One of his recent director credits includes The Smallest Power (Sundance, 2024; The New Yorker). His debut feature documentary, Iranian Hillbilly was a Southern Documentary Fund 2022 grant recipient, winner of New Orleans Film Festival 2022 South Pitch, and is currently in production. He is a 2024 Gotham/HBO Documentary Films Development Fellow.
