ABOUT THE FILM:
Freshman. Again. is an uplifting, heartwarming and hilarious short documentary about Lenny, a 50-year-old African American man who realizes his dream of going to college – at the same university his daughter attends. Directed and filmed by Aji Bass, who is both the filmmaker and Lenny’s son, the documentary offers a candid perspective of their loving, unusual, and sometimes awkward shared experience.
Blending personal interviews with cinema verite footage, Bass’ film vividly captures Lenny’s resilience and determination as he defies societal expectations and reinvents himself through education. Freshman. Again. not only celebrates his bold pursuit of personal growth but also highlights the transformative power of family and education, no matter the age. It serves as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to redefine one's goals, pursue new dreams, and embrace the ever-evolving journey of the human spirit.
