Watch as the first NOAA buoy of the Spring is placed by UWM in Lake Michigan. These buoys, throughout the Great Lakes, provide continuous, real-time information on critical conditions such as wind speed, air temperature, wave height, water temperature at various depths, and water-quality parameters. This data, freely accessible to the public, is essential for a wide range of users, from fishermen and freighter captains to climate change scientists. And there's the problem: Trump wants to defund the program so that vital scientific research will be starved of this source of data.
