AN UNUSUAL ROUTE: DIALOGUES AROUND SYSTEMIC REPRESENTATIONS

Join us for a thoughtful conversation about diversity, inclusion, and equity in America. Are you ready to discuss what equity could look like in America? We invite you to bring your questions for the Q&A and your vulnerability in this discussion.

Join the Live Panel Discussion and Audience Q&A Here

At Crested Butte Film Festival we believe that film can change lives. Every year we strive to create opportunities for participants to learn and have the opportunity to act during the festival. To accompany our panel “An Unusual Route: Dialogues Around Systemic Representations” and the films exploring race in America, we’ve developed a list of resources to support your journey toward anti-racism. This is not comprehensive by any means, but we hope this helps.

FREEDOM TO ROAM

“You can have fun doing things you’re scared of.”

-- Sarah McNair-Landry

If you are born on Baffin Island, chances are the spirit of adventure is instilled in you from the very start. Sarah McNair-Landry is just that: an adventurer by birth. Born and raised on Baffin Island, the harsh winters of Northern Canada have made her the polar expert she is today. Her appetite for exploration and double-digit subzero temperatures knows no bounds. Even a fractured vertebra won’t stop her from an adventure. The 33-year-old was the youngest person ever to reach both polar caps on her own. She has already completed five Greenland crossings and is also the first woman to be appointed Master Polar Guide.

In FREEDOM TO ROAM we meet an adventurer whose knowledge, willpower and eagerness to learn propels her towards new adventures and unseen horizons. To be able to explore Baffin Island vertically, she takes up climbing and hones her skills in kayaking with her partner-in-crime Erik Boomer.

FREEDOM TO ROAM is an intimate portrait of the 21st Century Adventurer Award winner 2019.
