Piconland: The Quest for the Perfect Picon Punch is the story of an “American West cocktail creation.” The film introduces the Basque-American drink, and the folks who keep its ritual alive in boarding houses and bars across Nevada. Full of mischievous characters on both sides of the bar, Piconland traces efforts to make the cocktail Nevada’s official state drink, its unique ingredients (including the secretly held recipe of the liquor behind the drink’s potency and flavor), and the existential pressures of gentrification, changing lifestyles, and personal loss on the places where it’s served nightly to enthusiastic patrons.
