For over 50 years, New York native Corky Lee photographed his hometown’s Chinatown and Asian American communities around the country. With a strong sense of social justice, he captured activists, celebrities, and everyday heroes with equal passion, taking over 100,000 photos. Sadly, while documenting the latest rise of anti-Asian hate crimes, Corky fell to COVID. Through his own words and pictures, DEAR CORKY reveals the man behind the camera. Chin has screened his films, Vincent Who? and Tested, with over 600 entities in sixteen countries including the White House, Amnesty International, and the Government of Norway. A co-founder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, he is writing a memoir, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant." as well as completing a short documentary on photographer Corky Lee. Glammas Wrap (老來嬌说唱) is an artistic bi-lingual collaboration between Clara Hsu (poet), Colleen Quen (Couture), Greg Landau (Grammy nominated music producer) and Wangyuxuan Xu (cinematographer). Performed by the Grant Avenue Follies, a cabaret troupe comprised of women ages 66 to 87, the "Wrap" celebrates the richness of their Chinese American experience through music, language, fashion and dance. Her father was constantly criticized by being a house dad. Watching the struggles her father encountered, Xu understands how diversity and inclusion are important but also how difficult it is to implement. Now, as a female journalist of color in the media industry, Xu hopes to speak out for herself and other minority groups. She aims to create narratives that touch on diversity within a local community, gender equality, and show that despite our differences, we are not much different from each other.

Old age is not for sissies. 40 14 TANGO IN TORRANCE follows the director’s mother, a ballroom dancer, on her journey through forgetfulness. She loses the ability to speak, except for two numbers. Her painful dark past becomes a blur and she finally begins to enjoy life coloring on a blank slate.<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/73359b3e0017ae5930c529af30c23b26.jpg" width="151" style="display: inline; float: left; margin: 0px 1em 1em 0px;"> Teresa Takaki Matsushima, born in the Windy City,&nbsp;traded snow boots for slippahs and grew up as a Gardena girl. A diehard Bruin, she married her main squeeze, Bob, has two grown kids, loves snuggling her grandkids, talking story over steamy matcha, and arranging flowers. A retired nurse practitioner, she has served with medical missions on three continents. 40 14 Tango In Torrance, her second film, chronicles her Mom’s memories fading to gray.

Winston Raval’s contributions to Philippine cinema stretch from the 70s to 80s, lending his musical voice to classics like Manila by Night, Ikaw ay Akin, and Himala. Although he has many accomplishments to his name, Winston continues to strive for more, for brand new sounds, and for musical perfection. Director - Melanie Lim<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/8c50078eaac84274f9ca8a5a048626f2.jpg" width="162" style="display: inline; float: left; margin: 0px 1em 1em 0px;"> Melanie Lim completed her masters at the USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate program with a focus on directing and editing. For two years, she was the lead teaching assistant for the graduate documentary class and was awarded the prestigious Annenberg student fellowship. While directing is her first love, she has found editing to be an equally fulfilling outlet for storytelling. When her nose isn’t buried in creative work, Melanie likes to spend time learning recipes from different parts of the world. Her obsession for food became her window to other cultures and her way of expressing love to those closest to her

I reflected on how this could have happened. Partly it was because my parents were immigrants and we didn't speak the same language nor share the same culture. How can we meaningfully be there for each other without a shared language or culture? We live in an age of extremes. Technology has given us the ability to connect to the world... Yet many of us still feel isolated and alone. I wanted to explore whether culture, tradition, and family– enduring ideas generations before held steadfast to– have become outdated in the face of our brave new world, or whether they’re still relevant. I hope this film can open up dialogue and shrink the cultural and generational gulfs that separate us from one another.
