Yearning for companionship but unable to connect with her daughter, a middle-aged Chinese immigrant turns to the unlikely world of online dating.

Director - Ricky Qi

A little over a year ago, my mother started dating again, and unknowingly got involved with a serial impersonator who targeted aging women. I reflected on how this could have happened. Partly it was because my parents were immigrants and we didn't speak the same language nor share the same culture. How can we meaningfully be there for each other without a shared language or culture?

We live in an age of extremes. Technology has given us the ability to connect to the world... Yet many of us still feel isolated and alone. I wanted to explore whether culture, tradition, and family– enduring ideas generations before held steadfast to– have become outdated in the face of our brave new world, or whether they’re still relevant. I hope this film can open up dialogue and shrink the cultural and generational gulfs that separate us from one another.
