As part of the collaboration with the University College of Volda the festival will include Symposium: Animation and Sciences to highlight how animation can help visualisation of advanced science. The Symposium is followed by a film programme with a wide selection of animated films that try to explain different processes of research and science.

The programme consists of 11 films from the USA, Croatia, Norway, and the UK, which are often a result of in-depth collaborations between scientists and animators. The films are surprisingly entertaining and are good examples of how different animation artist solve their task to communicated advanced sciences.

The Diabetes films are four animated films made for the Norwegian Diabetes Association. They are produced in co-production with the I Like Healthy Food films. The advantage of animation is that you can simplify and explain concepts more effectively. Here the challenge was to explain the differences between types 1 and 2 diabetes, and communicate how to best prevent and / or live with diabetes. The visual language is simple, but worked through to be able to be shown to people from different cultures without creating confusion or misunderstandings.
