As part of the collaboration with the University College of Volda the festival will include Symposium: Animation and Sciences to highlight how animation can help visualisation of advanced science. The Symposium is followed by a film programme with a wide selection of animated films that try to explain different processes of research and science.

The programme consists of 11 films from the USA, Croatia, Norway, and the UK, which are often a result of in-depth collaborations between scientists and animators. The films are surprisingly entertaining and are good examples of how different animation artist solve their task to communicated advanced sciences.

All action takes place around the NASA Space Sciences Laboratories, set to recordings of space scientists excitedly describing their visualisation techniques.

Semiconductor is UK artist duo Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. Over twenty years they have become known for an innovative body of work, which explores the material nature of our world and how we experience it through the lenses of science and technology. They occupy a unique position in the art world, blending, in philosophically compelling ways, experimental moving image techniques, scientific research and digital technologies.
