As part of the collaboration with the University College of Volda the festival will include Symposium: Animation and Sciences to highlight how animation can help visualisation of advanced science. The Symposium is followed by a film programme with a wide selection of animated films that try to explain different processes of research and science.

The programme consists of 11 films from the USA, Croatia, Norway, and the UK, which are often a result of in-depth collaborations between scientists and animators. The films are surprisingly entertaining and are good examples of how different animation artist solve their task to communicated advanced sciences.

More than three thousand insects appear in this film each for a single frame. As the colours glow and change across their bodies and wings it is as if the genetic programme of millions of years is taking place in a few minutes. It is a rampant creation that seems to defy the explanations of evolutionists and fundamentalists. It is like a mescalin dream of Charles Darwin’s.

Paul Bush is a filmmaker most well-known for experimental stop-frame animation. He has won many awards and his films have been shown in festivals, cinemas, galleries, and on television all around the world.
