The first of two programmes whose films have been hand-picked by the festival administration from other international animation festivals. These 12 films, in our opinion, are some of the best that the international animation scene has to offer right now.

Director's Note:

Programme 1 consists of seven films from France, Belgium, Syria, and Chile, all of which have an experimental and innovative use of animation for storytelling. The animation explores existential issues from completely personal issues such as family relationships, living conditions, to fascism, terror, war, and the end of the world. Believe us when we say that this programme will make you think completely differently about the big questions, or at least with new images created by innovative animation artists.

Guillaume kills Horacio “because he was shouting too loud.” At his trial, the vacuity of the motive disconcerts. During his 10 years in prison, Guillaume gradually forgets this story which had convinced no one. When he gets out, someone starts shouting again.

Caroline Cherrier studied at Gobelins, Paris. She co-directed the short film Que Dalle, which won an SACD Award at Bruz and was included in thirty selections at festivals. After her studies, she adapted Apollinaire's poem Fusée-Signal from the collection "En Sortant de l'Ecole". She has worked on different projects with the Lyon collective Souviens Ten-Zan that she co-founded.
