Support emerging filmmakers and FilmAid by making a donation to FAFF 2020.

The Student Film category features short dramas and documentaries produced by students in FilmAid's year-long, Media Entrepreneurship Training courses in Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee Camps. The short films were produced by diverse teams of young refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Congo, Sudan, Uganda and northwest Kenya. Many of the young filmmakers have spent most of their lives in the refugee camps. The Festival is thrilled to be able to provide these talented youth with a platform to have their voices heard.

Nadikil is a Turkana girl living with her family in northwest Kenya. Only a teenager, she attends school away from home. Retuning for a holiday break, she thinks nothing of the elders gathered in her compound talking amongst themselves. She’s excited to see her mum and friends. But time away from home has also meant time away from the daily struggle to keep the family fed. When Nadikil’s father tells her those men were there to propose a marriage, she sees only two options: fight or flight. Lucky for her a brave child shows her there’s another way.
