The Student Film category features short dramas and documentaries produced by students in FilmAid's year-long, Media Entrepreneurship Training courses in Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee Camps. The short films were produced by diverse teams of young refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Congo, Sudan, Uganda and northwest Kenya. Many of the young filmmakers have spent most of their lives in the refugee camps. The Festival is thrilled to be able to provide these talented youth with a platform to have their voices heard.

Trauma Warning: this film contains depictions of sexual violence that audience members may find distrubing.

Aisha father passes on while she is still in school. According to her family’s culture, Aisha’s youngest uncle is duty-bound to marry Aisha’s mother. Aisha’s mum is not thrilled to become the wife of a man barely older than Aisha. Aisha’s mother unable to reject the marriage buckles under the weight of the elder males’ demands and starts to drink. The situation escalates until Aisha can no longer protect her mum, or herself.
