This program offers a thought-provoking exploration into the role of animation as a powerful medium for driving social change. Through a series of in-depth discussions, we delve into how animated works can spark conversations, challenge societal norms, and inspire movements.
In this captivating and timely interview, director Devin Peters describes the creative process of making the film Dear Child II. After years of commercial styled and related work in the United Kingdom at the BBC and in the Middle East in the United Emirates, and because of the unrelenting violence over the past year, Devin makes the compelling decision to use his filmmaking skills to help the children of Gaza.
Dear Child II uses the words of Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Chris Hedges and the voice of actor and voice artist Eunice Wong to create a hauntingly powerful animated film that takes you on a journey through Gaza today. The imagery Devin has pieced together is devastatingly realistic but somehow the film still offers a glimmer of hope that something can be/must be done to stop the bombing. Through the film, he is asking the audience to open their eyes, see the destruction, feel the pain of injustice and also offers a way to take action to stop the killing of the people of Gaza whose overwhelming victims are mostly children.
