This program offers a thought-provoking exploration into the role of animation as a powerful medium for driving social change. Through a series of in-depth discussions, we delve into how animated works can spark conversations, challenge societal norms, and inspire movements.
What if your city, your workplace, your home were all destroyed through relentless and indiscriminate bombing? What if your colleagues, your neighbours, your family members, were all either killed or injured, with no functioning hospital available to help because those have also been bombed and destroyed too? What if all the borders that surround you are closed and/or tightly controlled by someone else determining what/who gets to come in and what/who gets to go out? What would you do?
Throughout their history, the people of Gaza have experienced horrendous attacks but none so horrific as what has been happening to them for the past year and counting. Within this unbelievable reality, award winning filmmaker, artist and educator, Haneen Koraz and her sister-in-law and colleague courageously teach animation workshops throughout Gaza to children and women living in tents with the hope of providing some respite and a sense of normalcy among all the destruction. Their animation filmmaking work is truly essential.

Trainer and Stop Motion Cartoon Film Maker // Independent
(A Day in the Tent, Red Autumn, My Grandmother Exhausted Us, The Impact of Words)
A trainer and designer of cartoon films using stop motion technology, Haneen Koraz has led workshops for children in government and agency schools to train them in making cartoon films since 2012. She has participated in the annual Theater Days festivals and won many awards in competitions for producing cartoon films within issues related to children’s and women’s rights, and has received many artistic grants.
Provided by Al-Hara Theater / A grant from the Creativity Challenge from the Palestinian Ministry of Culture / Windows Professional / French Institute / Filastiniyat Foundation / Action for Hope Foundation - Lebanon / Palestinian Cultural Fund / for making cartoon films with girls with and with disabilities.
In 2022 she received the Al-Taawoun Award for Excellence in the Cultural Sector, a 10-day training on cultural management and project management in difficult circumstances in the State of Lebanon.
Ibrahim Koraz

Ibrahim Mohamed Karaz is an English language teacher graduate from Al-Azhar University. He is a Human Development Trainer, English Language Trainer, Projects and Initiatives Coordinator.
Since 2016, he has been working in the field of initiatives and projects targeting children, youth and people with disabilities.
Nour Abed Jawwad
Art Director // Hakawy Animation Team, TDP Association

Nour Abed Jawwad is an animated film trainer and filmmaker. She has received many initiatives and grants to create animated films with various groups in the Gaza Strip.
She has produced many different films, the last of which were films about the war and what happened to Gaza.

Ling Chiu
Filmmaker & Educator // Independent
Ling has written, directed, and produced a number of award-winning short dramatic and experimental films and videos, as well as a documentary with the National Film Board of Canada. She believes strongly in the power of films and its place to help enact social change.
Ling has spent many years as a festival previewer for the Vancouver International Film Festival for both the International and Canadian selection committees and also for the SPARK ANIMATION Festival in Vancouver. She has also served as a Producer for the SPARK ANIMATION Festival 2024 - Animation For Change Program.
Currently, she is working as a specialist teacher for students with extreme complex cognitive and physical challenges where she developed a media arts program and employed her filmmaking skills to enhance their educational needs both creatively and exceptionally.
