1939- Jewish Eastern Europeans scramble to escape, as the rising tide of antisemitism becomes Holocaust. Sophie and Jacob find themselves on a crowded cargo ship, aimlessly sailing through the Mediterranean. Food is scarce, the threat of death looms, and each country turns the Jewish refugees away. Although their homes were torn away, they find refuge in each other.
