A young boy scout gets his Knots badge and draws his family back together.

Juror comments: This is a charming short film with a sweet message about bringing family back together.

The storyline is about a boy who is trying to get his Boy Scout knots badge. We first see him tent-camping in his backyard, talking to his stuffed animal. I love that he talks to his stuffed “dog” and takes him to school with him as well.

The camera work is well done, especially the shots outdoors at night, which are not easy. Good audio and the young boy who plays the protagonist is absolutely adorable. Anyone who has ever tried to pass the Boy Scots “know badge” will particularly relate to this. It’s a bit crazy and forms a cute underlying plot in this short film. The music is very upbeat and cute. One of my favorite scenes is when he gets back at the school bus bully by tying knots that trip him up when he’s leaving the busy. Everyone, from the busy driver to the other kids get a big kick out of that. This kids truly is keen on his knot-tying skills and takes them to a whole new level, making the audience wonder what he is actually up to. He is very determined and self-confident. When he ties string all over his house to do his chores and it backfires, it only makes you smile big time.

There message of this film is to never give up, practice your skills because you never know when they’ll come in handy.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for age 4 to 10. It’s pretty sweet and would easily fit into any family-friendly film festival. And Boy Scouts would get an extra kick out of it.
