Our pets are our best friends, whether or not we have stable shelter, and sometimes even much more so when we live on the streets. In this&nbsp;#ourtownreno documentary, Lucia Starbuck looks into the relationship of the homeless with their cats and dogs, and wonders why more shelters don't allow their presence. By seeing the love of the people in our film for their pets, we&nbsp;might understand them better, and look for better ways to help them and to understand they are an integral part of our community, and not an "other."

I graduated from Jackson High School in Jonesboro Louisiana and was looking forward&nbsp;to playing football at Grambling State University, but I was drafted&nbsp;to go to Vietnam to fight for my country. Life sometimes take us down many roads and we often lose focus and direction. But if we don’t lose faith or hope, we will always get back on the right path. Jesus gave me a vision to create a women’s professional basketball league. But I had other plans, to play professional football in the NFL. When my plans failed, I gave in and followed Jesus plan for my life. And it would become my&nbsp;greatest achievement.

This documentary focuses on the Hamar Tribe, a semi nomadic and rural people who live along the Omo River in Southwestern Ethiopia. Preserving the traditions of their ancestors is essential to defining Hamar life. One of the most venerated of the Hamar’s ancient traditions involves the transition of the Hamar male into an adult. Today, however there is a new awareness that aspects of this tradition are harmful to the health and well being of many who participate. The Hamar people are beginning to consider how their tradition can evolve. “Kanda Bode…Don’t Get Whipped.”
