Queer music artists continue to shift the culture through visual storytelling. We’re honored to feature several of these tastemakers in our community during our exclusive music video block. Each artist brings something unique to the visual landscape that we are excited to amplify.
Lassai (Luh•Say) is a black queer/non binary multidisciplinary artist from the south side of Chicago, currently residing in NYC (Brooklyn). Lassai uses Music | Film | Theatre to tell queer stories for healing, love, empowerment, and escapism. Deeply rooted by gospel and R&B music, Lassai has found themselves fixed on blending their musical foundations with newer sounds in the Dance/Pop/House soundscapes.
Lassai’s visual EP “IMMORTAL” was released October 2022, distributed globally by Open Television Network and shown in So.Mad NYC’s “(UN)FIXED” Exhibit. “IMMORTAL” is a vampiric love tale set in Chicago’s queer underground utopia. “IMMORTAL” venerated black queer pioneers of house/tech music and delivered a raw POV of black queer life in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. Lassai’s latest project “ABYSS” was released January 2025, while simultaneously touring the country in the National Broadway Tour of “Ain’t Too Proud: the Life and Times of The Temptations”. “ABYSS” includes hit singles such as “Switch”, and “Stigmata” Remix by Docx. Most recently, Lassai was seen touring the country in the National Broadway Tour of “Hadestown”. Their latest single “Tease Me” ft. Kidd Kenn was released this summer.
Lassai’s biggest influences are Frank Ocean, Dawn Richard, Octavia Butler, Paul Robeson, and Dr. Joy DeGruy. Purrr ft. Grizzy Mack explores how the queer body is often a place of fantasy, whimsy, experimentation, and lust. The visual transports you to an online cyber fantasy land, where we worship the feline, because just like cats, healing the world with the frequency of their "Purrr", queer, trans, and non-binary people of color are are healing humanity with their creativity and essence. "Purrr" is the fifth track from Lassai's Visual EP "IMMORTAL".
