"COWBOY" is a music video by Jack Boaz and Ryan Thompson, featuring Boaz's original song of the same name.

Jack, a transmasc cowboy-curious protagonist, is introduced to Western cowboy culture through Susi, an elder butch cowboy. Susi take him to the Gay Rodeo. Line dancing ensues.

"COWBOY" was executive produced and creative directed by Jack Boaz, in collaboration with on-location filming at the New Mexico Gay Rodeo (Santa Fe, NM), and with The Outlaws, a group of queer line dancers from Albuquerque, NM, who created an original line dance choreography for the video by 7 of their trans/nonbinary choreographers. The video was a DIY and community effort, self-funded with 25 dance volunteers, and no indie or major label support.

Jack Boaz (executive producer, featured artist, creative director) is a violinist, composer, producer, and interdisciplinary artist whose work moves between folk traditions, experimental electronics, club music, and queer storytelling. Born in New York but now based for many years in Santa Fe, New Mexico, his performance experience spans from touring with symphony orchestras to playing with folk orchestras in festivals in Belgium, Germany, India, and Slovenia to playing as a session musician in country and folk bands around the Southwest. Boaz's debut solo project, [insert] boy (2024-2026), produced with Niko O'Brien at Upcycled Sounds Studios in London, reimagines queer and transmasculine identity through a collision of folk fiddle, pop, and electroacoustic processing. “COWBOY” and the resulting music video, is the first single from [insert] boy. Boaz's continued focus is in creating interdisciplinary work that centers trans bodies.

Ryan Thompson (director) is an award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. With over twenty years of experience across directing, cinematography, and editing, Thompson has earned three regional Emmy Awards and two Telly Awards for his work in documentary and broadcast media. Thompson's music video work includes directing projects for Lizzo ("Faded"), Atmosphere ("Ringo"), Brother Ali ("Never Learn"), and Sid Sriram ("Long Long Time"). Most recently, he served as cinematographer and co-producer on Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted (2024). As cinematographer for the documentary Meow Wolf: Origin Story and longtime Meow Wolf collaborator, he has developed a signature visual style that blends immersive world-building with grounded storytelling.
