Celebrating the power and importance of female friendships, Spirit Untamed diverts from a stereotype often seen in today's movies. The women behind Spirit Untamed have created a movie that empowers the viewer to be strong and brave. An important part of this team’s work was to hone in on a timeless message of independence and staying wild. Whether it was directing a massive animation crew, scoring the music, or animating a stallion, these four inspiring women give us a peek into the details and behind-the-scenes of Spirit Untamed.

Elaine Bogan
Director // DreamWorks Animation
While studying Classical Animation at Sheridan College, Elaine Bogan found her home in Story, which has translated into a challenging and successful career. Elaine has been a Story Artist with DreamWorks Animation on a wide range of feature films and television series, and began directing for the studio in 2011.
Elaine became DreamWorks Television’s first female director while working on the series Dragons: Riders of Berk. Her debut episode was nominated at the 2014 Annie Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Directing an Animated Television Production. She went on to direct episodes of the Emmy-nominated Trollhunters and 3 Below, both part of Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy. She currently directed her first feature film, the highly-anticipated Spirit Untamed.
Karen Foster
Producer // DreamWorks Animation
Karen Foster has produced a variety of projects for DreamWorks Animation including feature, TV and theme park attractions. Her producing credits include: How to Train Your Dragon (co-producer), numerous Kung Fu Panda and Shrek television specials, Universal Hollywood’s Kung Fu Panda: Emperor’s Quest, Shrek’s London Adventure for Merlin Entertainment, multiple attractions for Dubai Parks & Resorts’ Motiongate theme park, and, most recently, The Power of I for the Comcast Headquarters, with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer.
She most recently was the producer of Spirit Untamed for DreamWorks Feature Animation. Karen came to DWA in 2003 as a development executive. Previously, she was Director of Development for Walt Disney Feature Animation. Prior to animation, Karen worked in live theatre. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School.
Shabrayia Cleaver
Production Manager // DreamWorks Animation
Shabrayia Cleaver most recently served as Production Manager on the latest DreamWorks animated feature film Spirit Untamed.
She started her career at DreamWorks in 2014 as an intern on How to Train Your Dragon 2, and has worked her way up in various departments across the animation pipeline. Her other film credits include Home, Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, The Boss Baby, and Abominable.
Now, as one of the youngest and first Black Production Managers, Shabrayia strives to ensure representation and diversity on and off the screen.
Shabrayia attended Cal State University and is a Los Angeles native.
Amie Doherty

Irish composer Amie Doherty’s credits span a wide range of genres in both film and television. One of her recent projects includes DreamWorks Animation’s highly anticipated feature Spirit Untamed. Recent scores include Universal/Focus Features’ film The High Note; Amazon's critically-acclaimed series Undone; Battle at Big Rock, a Jurassic World short film directed by Colin Trevorrow; DreamWorks Animation’s short film Marooned; Paramount’s Here & Now starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Renée Zellweger; and Emmy-nominated documentary Light in the Water. In addition to her scoring work, Amie has also orchestrated and conducted the scores for numerous TV series including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Fargo, The Umbrella Academy, and Altered Carbon. An alumna of the Sundance Institute Music & Sound Design Lab, She is based in Los Angeles, CA.

Amy Tang is a line producer at Mainframe Studios, a Division of WOW! Unlimited Media. Also, she co-chairs Mainframe Studios’ Culture Club to keep the fun and excitement of working at an animation studio bright and alive. Amy proudly volunteers on the leadership team for Spark CG Society, holds the Vice-Chair position with the Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH chapter, sits on the Board of Directors for Vancouver Animation Network, and is part of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, a partnership with the Animation & VFX Alliance of British Columbia.
Amy’s ability to maintain a grassroots and organic yet structured approach, along with a loud voice and vibrant energy, compliments the teams she oversees and events she helps organize and run. Amy needs to evoke strong community connections to help the CG industry grow and thrive.
As a small girl growing up in Manitoba, Canada, under open skies and endless fields, Amy has nourished her soul and mind with music, theatre, and film. This has helped build creative solid legs that help carry visions, imagination and networking into Vancouver, BC, Canada’s expressive lifestyle.
