Known for its original and highly clever take on coming-of-age, Big Mouth is charming and repulsive all at once. In this interview, Producer Anthony Lioi walks us through the production process that not only makes Big Mouth graphic and lurid but extremely funny. As Anthony Lioi asks, “When you hit puberty, and you’re super horny all of a sudden, how do you deal with it?”

Anthony Lioi

Co-Executive Producer // Titmouse Animation

(Big Mouth, The Cleveland Show, American Dad, King of the Hill)

Anthony knew he wanted to work in animation after his father took him to see The Empire Strikes Back in the theatre. He started out making his toys run around and slay one another. After learning the ropes of painting cells and operating the pencil test camera at some small NY studios, Anthony started his professional career as a storyboard revisionist at MTV.

Shortly after that, he moved to LA to cut his teeth directing on King of the Hill for many seasons. He had a brief stint at Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender before returning to FOX Animation to supervise American Dad and The Cleveland Show. He dipped a toe in children’s TV with DreamWork’s Turbo FAST. Despite it all, Anthony feels the most comfortable back in the adult primetime realm with Big Mouth and the upcoming spin-off Human Resources.
