Damon Wellner

Lead Animator // Neon Cat Productions

(Sia "Snowman", Michael Bublé "White Christmas", HOOD: A Star Wars Story, Hellboy)

Damon Wellner grew up in Massachusetts, studying film at Emerson College in Boston. In 1998, he began experimenting with self-proclaimed “toy cinema”: campy, lo-fi videos produced on a micro-budget with his vast action figure collection, lampooning Hollywood using live-action puppetry techniques, and a VHS camera, first broadcast on local cable access TV. This led to his first gig making Star Wars toy videos for Hasbro’s website in 1999.

Damon relocated to Los Angeles in 2000, working in film/TV production, including work under Oscar-winning effects legend Gene Warren Jr. on miniature pyro practical effects for Hellboy and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. All the while, Damon continued making "toy cinema" at home. His 30-minute fan film, ALIEN 5², won Best Fan Film at RadCon Fan Film Fest in 2008.

His career took a decade-long detour, when he turned to the dark side, becoming a paparazzo, peaking as a TMZ reporter.

But in 2014, Damon learned stop-motion character animation at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, which reignited his passion for toy cinema and drew him back to the light. Stop-motion changed his entire production process, eliminating the need for unpaid help from friends, and allowed him to take his toy videos to the next level. His 2019 parody, HOOD: A Star Wars Story, has won 18 awards so far at festivals worldwide.

Also in 2019, Damon began animating for Neon Cat Productions under director Lior Molcho, animating music videos for artists including Michael Bublé and Sia.
