Finely-crafted narrative and documentary student shorts that exemplify brave and distinctive storytelling.

ABOUT THE FILM: Filmmaker Nemo Allen travels to war-torn Cauca, Colombia, to witness the struggle of the Indigenous Nasa—and finish his recently deceased mother’s incomplete documentary. We meet the Guardia Indígena, armed only with the titular batons, who defend their community amidst the world’s longest running civil war. We follow Nemo as he reconciles his grief and, in the face of complex danger, realizes why his mother risked her life all those years ago.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Nemo Allen is a Colombian-American filmmaker from New York City. An editor and cinematographer by trade, Nemo holds an MFA in film from The City College of New York and a BA from Wesleyan University, where he studied literature and dance.
