Synopsis: THE SETTLER follows a young man as he tends to a seemingly abandoned town. His demeanor is odd and his chores, somewhat abstruse. As our story progresses, we grow to understand him and the relationship he's formed with this place. Director's Bio: Henry Nelson was born in 1998, grew up in New York City and now attends Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

The Settler

A lone settler tends to an an empty town.

Synopsis: Paola, a young mother in post-Maria Puerto Rico, juggles her duty to her daughter and incarcerated husband with her increasing need for romantic affection. Stifled and suppressed by the weight of her responsibilities, Paola sets out on a personal journey to find herself underneath the roles that have been thrust upon her and finds comfort in the arms of an unlikely person. Director's Bio: Ricardo J. Varona is a Puerto Rican filmmaker based in NYC. He is a Miloš Forman Directing Fellow, Equity Diversity &amp; Inclusion Representative, and MFA Directing candidate for Columbia University’s Graduate Film program. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Film BFA during which he had the privilege of studying at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. Having lived most of his life on the island, Ricardo’s work constantly bounces back and forth between Puerto Rico and the U.S. His stories are centered mostly on family matters, sexuality, class, and cultural identity.

Hector’s Woman (La mujer de Héctor)

In 2018, a year after the landfall of Hurricane María, a young mother named Paola attempts to find herself as she wrestles with her responsibilities to her daughter and incarcerated husband.

Synopsis: LITTLE SKY follows the journey of Sky, a Chinese-American pop star who returns to the city they were raised in to find their estranged immigrant father. Haunted by their childhood memories, Sky risks their non-binary identity to end the cycle of violence in their family. In the confrontation, Sky discovers something that changes how they feel about the people they love. Packed with original songs, LITTLE SKY is a film about finding the chosen family who sees us when our blood family cannot. Director's Bio: Jess X. Snow is a non-binary film director, artist, poet, and community arts educator who creates queer Asian immigrant stories that transcend borders, binaries and time. Based in Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY), they are currently an MFA thesis student at NYU Tisch as an Ang Lee Scholar. Their films have been supported by Tribeca Film Institute, The Smithsonian Asian Pacific Center, and Adobe. Their past shorts AFTEREARTH and SAFE AMONG STARS have screened at over 30 film festivals internationally. Director's Bio: Anika Benkov is a New York filmmaker who writes stories about the kinks in life and in ourselves, loneliness, and growing pains at all ages. Synopsis: When Priyanka, a rebellious American, goes back to India to immerse her mother's ashes, she discovers her funny family has kept a serious secret. Director's Bio: Urvashi Pathania is a writer/director based in Los Angeles. In 2021, Urvashi was selected for the Google Assistant Storytelling Fellowship in partnership with The Black List. She is also currently in Lena Waithe’s Writers’ Lab. Her thesis film, UNMOTHERED will premiere on HBO Max.

Synopsis: A group of mothers defy Europe’s last dictatorship, fighting to free their children from draconian sentences in brutal Belarusian prisons. Director's Bio: Veranika Nikanava was a Belarus-born actress, filmmaker, and activist. She died on 25 July 2019 in an attempt to cross Teklanika river in Alaska at the age of 24. Nika was deeply concerned about the situation with human rights and liberties in her homeland. She was an active member of a Belarusian community in New York, where she lived since 2017.
