An incredible compilation of six Iranian documentaries and narratives. Both thought-provoking and brave, several of the topics covered are taboo in their country, but these directors and filmmakers take a chance to explore and expose, inform and celebrate. We had several incredible Iranian films submitted this year - it was hard to select just a few for our Spotlight.

Delve into this fascinating collection of short films and then order your ticket for HIT THE ROAD, from director Panah Panahi, and the shorts program Short Narratives 1: PEOPLE & THE ARTS featuring THE PYLON, another short film from Iran, directed by Babak Mostafav.:

Part of our Short Docs & Narratives: SPOTLIGHT ON IRAN

Director: Mehdi Imani Shahmiri

Director's Statement:

Iran is a country of tribes and full of unknown local cultures.

Mysterious rituals and myths that have their roots tied to the invisible millennias of history.

One of these cultures belongs to the rural people of Mazandaran.

People who live in the heart of the Alborz Mountains and the southern shores of the Caspian Sea and have preserved their handicrafts to a large extent.

Gelij is one of the oldest and most complex handicrafts of these people and perhaps all of Iran, which remains in only one village and with the death of the last weavers, the Gelij will also disappears.

One of the weavers is an old woman named Keshvar, who also has a strange and unique legend in her heart.
