An incredible compilation of six Iranian documentaries and narratives. Both thought-provoking and brave, several of the topics covered are taboo in their country, but these directors and filmmakers take a chance to explore and expose, inform and celebrate. We had several incredible Iranian films submitted this year - it was hard to select just a few for our Spotlight.
Delve into this fascinating collection of short films and then order your ticket for HIT THE ROAD, from director Panah Panahi, and the shorts program Short Narratives 1: PEOPLE & THE ARTS featuring THE PYLON, another short film from Iran, directed by Babak Mostafav.:
AT HIS EIGHT by Reza Shad
TIME TO LOSE by Mohammadreza Beheshti
LIBIDO by Saeed Dashti
PARIZAD by Mehdi Imani Shahmiri
SHI by Ehsan Lesani and Minoo Bina
WHERE THE WINDS DIE by Pejman Alipour
SHI portrays the hardship in a traditional relationship.
“Shi”, (Shima) as our main female character has had premarital sexual intercourse, although not permitted by the traditions.
The couple has not been sexually active since marriage and Shi has remained silent about this matter, bringing up excuses to avoid having sexual contact with her husband.
This had to go on until tonight.
She has eventually been offered the chance to get her hymen fixed, though in a non-professional clinic.
Only moments before getting the hymen fixed in the clinic, she changes her mind with an unexpected inner eruption, piled up over the course of time.
She resolves to not fix the hymen but to stand up against this traditional social rule of "virginity before marriage", imposed by old principles against women, and leave the clinic to face a new world both in family and in society.
