A circle, a palindrome, and a giant cake walk into a cinema—these conceptual explorations bounce between linear narratives and abstract observations. At times delightfully oddball, at others self-reflexive, these video poems skew perspective by infusing formal structures with experimental play—collectively addressing the dualities of this bizarre and beautiful life.
Weary Blues is a short film adaptation of Langston Hughes's 1925 poem of the same name, which first appeared in Opportunity, a magazine published by the Urban League. It was awarded the magazine's prize for best poem of the year, and was the titular poem of Hughes's first book. Hughes wrote the poem about how music gives relief to the daily pain and frustration of Black people.
