Director's Statement

Dinkum, QLD explores the concept of memory as meaning versus recollection, and how that meaning can bring us closer together. While our perspectives and beliefs about events can differ, shared stories have the power to create shared identities.

Dinkum, QLD is my first short film and it was shot entirely using a Samsung Galaxy s20+ 5G. Thank you to the very important people who helped and supported me to bring this film to life.

Director's Bio

Brenton's obsession with movies started with VHS recordings of action movies from TV (Terminator 2, Robocop 2... dystopian cyborg sequels were popular on mid 90's TV channels). Amid the mullets and explosions a love of filmography was born, and Brenton spent the next couple of decades dissecting the magic of cinema and dreaming of one day seeing his own creation on the big screen.

Brenton is fascinated with how the layers of film - writing, characters, cinematography, and sound design to name a few - come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts and elicit real emotions in an audience. With the advancement of smartphone technology breaking down barriers to amateur film makers, Brenton hopes to make films that create the sense of wonder and absorption he felt watching and rewatching those well worn tapes of his childhood.
