Sepi Mashiahof is a transgender Iranian-American filmmaker, writer, and musician. Her work chases catharsis through exploring the beauty and brutality of queer existence in reflection with cultural diaspora. Born in Tehran, Iran and raised in LA, she truly came of age in the underground music community in Oakland, where she directed DIY music videos before journeying into narrative short filmmaking with her Ether Trilogy: LOVE YOU FOREVER (2021), SMOOTH (2023), and HUMANS ARE SHAPES (2026).
Sepi is a Sundance Trans Possibilities fellow, Film Fatales Forward fellow, Transgender Film Center/Netflix’s Career Lab fellow, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg script funding recipient, and an SFFILM Filmhouse Resident. She is a frequent collaborator with Jane Schoenbrun, having worked as the director’s assistant on the acclaimed A24 film I SAW THE GLOW as well as the upcoming film TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA.
