Set twenty-five years into the future, Long Away is a sci-fi story about Victoria and the father who died when she was very young. As a trans woman who transitioned as an adult, Victoria's father never got to know her truth. She uses a one-round-trip-only time travel device to jump back to our present and meet the man she can barely remember... and try to find out if he'd love her for who she really is.

The film opens on a couple walking down the street twenty-five years in the future, discussing preparations for whatever is about to happen. Using a simple time-travel device, Victoria steps into a comic book store and is transported back to (our) modern times. The owner of the store is revealed to be her own father. We realize that he passed away at a young age and she has never been able to meet him as herself, but due to the laws of time travel, she doesn’t reveal herself to him. There is a touching scene where they bond over a comic series, and he notes that his son is also deeply invested in that particular comic. He insists that Victoria take a particular pin of the comic, but she says that he should give it to his son. Said son then bursts through the door, interrupting them and we realize this is indeed Victoria as she once was. Careful to not cause any world-ending paradoxes by interacting with her past self, she excuses herself and leaves. Outside, we are again in the future and see Victoria’s partner waiting for her. She relays how she is feeling about the situation before noting a certain outside corner of the comic store that was always broken (also noted in the opening scene). Inside, she finds a note from her father along with the pin, stating that only his child loves that comic that much, and wherever she is he hopes she is happy.
