Dune: Part One is a remarkable science fiction epic that introduces viewers to Denis Villeneuve's vision of Frank Herbert's "Dune" universe.


In this session, DNEG's Tristan Myles (VFX Supervisor) and Rhys Salcombe (CG Supervisor) will talk through the pivotal role that DNEG played in helping bring Denis Villeneuve's immersive vision to life. Sharing enthralling behind-the-scenes details of the project, they will dive into some of the VFX work behind the creation of an iconic film.

Rhys Salcombe

Rhys Salcombe is an award-winning DFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor at DNEG. With extensive experience on large-scale, build-intensive VFX work across a range of popular Hollywood franchises, Rhys’s work as CG Supervisor on Dune has received a 2022 VES Nomination for Outstanding Created Environment In A Photoreal Feature - an award he received in 2018 for his work on Blade Runner 2049.


Since graduating in 2006 from Swansea Institute of Higher Education, Rhys has worked on more than 30 feature films across a variety of roles. As he has honed his visual effects expertise, he has taken on leading and supervisory roles on many features, such as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Star Trek Beyond, and Greyhound.

Tristan Myles

VFX Supervisor // DNEG

Tristan Myles is an Academy Award-winning VFX Supervisor with over seventeen years of experience in the visual effects industry. During his work as VFX Supervisor on Dune, he worked closely with multiple Academy Award-winning Production VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert both on location in Jordan and Budapest and in the Vancouver office.


Tristan's impressive filmography of over 30 films includes several Oscar-winners, such as Blade Runner 2049 and Interstellar, for both of which he earned VES award nominations. In 2019, he received several awards for his work on biographical drama First Man, including the ‘Best Visual Effects’ Academy Award and the VES Award for ‘Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature’.


Currently helming DNEG’s work on Netflix’s upcoming fantasy adventure film, Slumberland, Tristan has again been nominated for the ‘Best Visual Effects’ Academy Award, this time for his work on Dune.
