A key component of Visual Communications' "Hidden Treasures" series that offered a deeper examination into the diverse voices of the Asian Pacific American community, OMAI FA'TASI (1978) was one of the first VC productions produced using industrial video technology, and signaled a transition away from celluloid-based film production for the organization. Centered around the Carson, CA-based youth development center of the same name, OMAI FA'ATASI weaves interviews with youth organizer Simi Potasi and others to present a portrait of a unique Southern California community whose family and spiritual values are challenged by the pitfalls of contemporary American culture. Augmented by striking watercolor animated illustrations by Ron Battle, Potasi provides a capsule history of the growth of the Samoan American community in Los Angeles' South Bay region, and reveals the many challenges facing Samoan youths and young adults.

Kay Ochi emphasizes the power of testimonies, grassroots organizations, and the importance of speaking out against injustice.
