ABOUT THE FILM: Grandad's face brightens at the sight of Cody, his transgender grandson entering his hospital room as he awaits his pacemaker operation. Cody asks Grandad how he knew it was love when he met Abuela. As Grandad and Cody begin singing “The Rhythm of the Heart,” the audience is transported back in time to follow the couple’s journey, from love at first sight to marriage. Through the song, Grandad tells Cody that “when it hits ya, don’t let it miss ya.” As Grandad reminisces about his love story with Abuela, he recalls that they, too, felt like outsiders in society, just as Cody feels today. Meanwhile, Cody goes off to play soccer, with his team just one goal away from the championship. In the stands is Grandad, who draws a heart on his chest and points at Cody. With his support, Cody scores the winning goal.
