The Ways of Being Home explores the immigrant experience in the company of the Mexican community living in Northfield, a semi-rural town in southern Minnesota. Most members of this immigrant community trace their roots back to Maltrata, a small agricultural municipality nestled in the mountains of the state of Veracruz.

Taking a poetic approach that incorporates a multiplicity of voices, the film is accented by brief animated sequences and immersive observational passages that draw attention to the geographical and emotional displacement endured by community members.

Filmed over the course of the Trump presidency, Ways of Being Home attests to the resilience, ingenuity, and fierce determination of displaced people as they craft a life and a home away from home.
